A Twisted Girl’s Take on Love, Dating and Zodiac Signs

The Darker Side of Things

This post’s topic has always been in Evil Woobie’s tagline, the dark side. It is not just an attempt to seem edgy and all that, but more of a reflection of this blogger’s acknowledgment of “the less talked about side” of a certain niche.

In Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, the character of Delight morphed into Delirium for some undisclosed reason, and up to now speculations abound as to what caused the switch. That delirium is delight’s dark side tells us how too much of something can lead to a warped, though more intriguing, version of the same thing.

In a conversation with diwa, an authority in cosplaying in the Philippines, I discussed the dark side concept to him and he said “I wonder, what’s my niche’s dark side?”. I answered without hesitation, “porn”. Another friend, who owns a sports blog, asked me what I thought about him reviewing gambling sites on his blog. I told him that it’s pretty logical because gambling is the dark side of sports.

The dark side of the internet marketing niche is scams, that of online dating is pimping, that of the video/music niche is piracy and — hmm, how about the parenting and spiritual niches? Do these have a dark side too? They do… self righteousness.

Just as hate is not the dark side of love, but rather, obsession… people do not venture forth to the darker side of things in a conscious and immediate manner. Think of it as a pristine white piece of paper taking on the many subtle shades of grey before turning completely black.

It all starts with a single notion, like “hey, it’s more fun this way…” or “there must be an easier way to earn from my blogging…”, or even “maybe I should get paid for slamming people on my blog, eh?…”
So, what’s your niche’s dark side? Do you know?
