My Top 3 Most Memorable Moment: “Karir Mode” during the Open Beta of Ragnarok Online

In the collective sense, “karir” means to make friends, get to know, share experiences or simply, hang out together.

Let me take you back to the time when I encountered Philippine Ragnarok Online in 2003. There were less than 700 players in the game but the number is growing everyday. Everyone was a newbie and excited to meet new people and play the game. I, in particular, made it a point to be friends with everyone I met.

The thing with pRO is the chat interface is so easy that anyone can connect with everyone else at any given time: while levelling, vending, fighting, or just logging in and staying in one place. What makes it unique from all other MMORPGs is that the sprites have all the capability for an optimum roleplay experience. Emotions and reactions may be relayed by just pressing a button.

Here are some of the most memorable chats I had.

Polgara: What’s that on your mouth?….Knight: A pipe. From Eddga…..Polgara: Who’s Eddga? Your friend?…. Knight: No, not my friend. An MVP boss…..Polgara: Ohh, your boss!…….Knight: Errrr.

Polgara: Picture muna tayo dito sa floating leaf!!!…. BS/Merchant: Papano tayo magle-level kung parati tayong nagpo-pause to take pictures!?!…. Polgara: Pumayag ka na, ako naman nagsu-supply ng potions natin e *rolleyes*!

Polgara: Rey, is it true that you have been voted as Mayor of Morroc?… SPO4 Rey: Well, when I change servers, si Roofie na ang mayor ng Morroc… Polgara: Oh, ok.

Polgara: Ano nga uli yung ipapa-DC mo?… Thief: 2-slot stilleto please…. Polgara: OK. Would you also like to let me sell your loots for you? I have Overcharge skill too…. Thief: Yes, I want to sell this star I got from Orc Zombies….. Polgara: OK. Thanks!

Polgara: You know, you’re my first non-BS friend here…. Assasin: Bakit ba puro BS ang friends mo?….Polgara: kasi sila ang laging nasa prontera e.

My Top 2 Most Memorable Moment: Being Featured in Waukster’s Celebrity Player Interviews

Being in the spotlight has never been my thing. I just wanted to play and enjoy the game the best way I know. Being in this interview made me feel happy and reaffirmed my commitment to and love for the game. I have always been and will always be a fan of Ragnarok Online.

It’s funny that sometimes when I’m vending in RO or just walking around, people will PM to tell me that they read the interview. I smile in appreciation and tell them that it was really an honor to be included. Not many people realize how long I’ve been playing: partly because of my friends in game and partly because the gameplay of Ragnarok is great.

I feel sad that I could not share this experience with my pals in RO who already left the game for varied reasons. However, I feel that I brought them with me and that I somewhat represented the “beta-day RO players” when I got included in the waukster interview section.

My Top 1 Most Memorable Moment: Being a Member of the the Guild Untouchables-Rebirth-Aftermath-Armada

June of 2004. After a PVP session, I was walking around Prontera, guildless, searching for bargains in the market place when someone I never expected to even know me suddenly sent me a Private Message.

It was gigler, one of the most famous personalities in pRO Chaos. The father-figure of the fearsome guild, Untouchables-Rebirth. During that time, UT-RB has made its name as the ultimate PVP guild, being one of the representatives of the Philippines in the Ragnarok World Championships in Korea that year. Besides that, rumors abound as to where the “power” behind UT-RB’s status as the most ruthless guild in early Chaos came from. I stared at the pop-up chat window on my screen for a long time and felt both intimidated and fearful.

“Did I offend someone from UT-RB in Izlude no-limit? Was I a target because I trash talked too much?”

After the hi’s and hello’s, gigler got to the point. He told me I am most welcome to join their guild, and that they’d be most happy if I could join their ranks. He even invited me to an upcoming EB that they’re currently organizing to strategize for a new alliance called Aftermath. Although flattered and elated at the invitation, I sadly informed him that most of my good equipments belonged to my former RO boyfriend, and that I was left with almost nothing when we broke up.Gigler told me that my lack of equips wasn’t a problem, and that they will take care of me in the guild. He became the first of the many people who have stayed with me in RO up to the present.

UT-RB became Aftermath, then went back to being UT, when the alliance broke up. Then, finally evolved to the latest and greatest manifestation of Ragnarok powerplaying I have seen in all my years of playing pRO: Armada. This is more than a guild to me, it’s my family. Through the years, we have supported each other. Encouraging each other to excel, in game and off game. Though a lot of our members have went on with their lives beyond pRO, we continue to cherish the moments we spend with each other and keep in contact constantly.
